HO-Scale East Broad Top Ex-Hancock & Calumet 2-Bay Hopper

In 1902, the EBT purchased 40 used 2-bay wooden hopper and 10 flat cars from the Hancock and Calumet Rail Road Company in Michigan. The hoppers were originally numbered 505-543 and 451 (by 1911 renumbered 601-640), and classified as ore cars used to carry iron ore from Mt. Union to the furnaces in Rockhill. From 1912 through 1917, the hoppers were remodeled by increasing the number of sideboards, adding slanting boards at the tops of the sides, updating the underframe, and adding steel linings, Vulcan trucks and modern air brakes. The remodeled cars were placed in ganister rock service, one car lasting into the early 1940’s.

This HO scale 3D printed model of the 20’ 6” long, 7’ 7” wide car body is provided by Ric Case. Unpainted. Trucks, couplers, details and decals are not included, but trucks are available separately here.
