O Scale Robertsdale Freight House Kit

The Robertsdale Freight House was built sometime in the early 1900’s and was still standing when the East Broad Top ceased operations. It stood in the wye with the truck side facing the middle. There are few pictures of the freight house, and according to the Spring 1998 Timber Transfer, there are no known photographs of the north end of the structure.

The kit was designed using drawings and photographs in the Timber Transfer, and with different options on how the model is constructed based on suggestions in the article. On the north end there is an option for a door and window, like the south end, or just a window. The freight house had holes in the wall that suggested the track side dock may have extended the full length of the building at one time. The kit provides an option for a short or full-length dock.

This HO scale kit is made with laser-cut wood parts. The battens are applied separately with a template included to guide the builder with the proper length of the battens. The roof is corrugated aluminum with foil tape for the ridge.

This kit, by Southwest Heritage Models, makes a nice addition to a scene of the Robertsdale Company Square. Original photo of completed HO kit courtesy of the manufacturer.
