Industrial Archeology in the Blacklog Narrows: A Story of the Juniata Valley Iron Industry (2007, by Scott D. Heberling.

From 1997 to 2003 FEBT member Scott D. Heberling and his associates performed extensive archeological excavations of two iron furnaces in the Blacklog Creek valley, south of Orbisonia, before these sites were lost to improvements to US Highway 522. This publication summarizes the results of these investigations and discusses the development of the iron industry in this location, before the arrival of the East Broad Top Railroad and the Rockhill Iron & Coal Company.
