EBT Billmeyer & Smalls Open End Coal Dumps

CAD drawings by Greg Vaughn of the East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Company Coal Dumps built by Billmeyer & Smalls of York PA and modified by the EBT. These eight-wheeled, wooden open-end cars had a capacity of 20,000 lbs and were in use from the mid-1870s through 1918.

These highly detailed drawings include four modifications made to the original closed end cars or previously modified cars over time.

• First modifications (to the original closed end car): body-mounted brakes, enclosed elliptical springs, open ends, offset end straps and improved brake pawl mount
• Second modifications: 24 inch wheels, larger journals, lowered doors, outside truss rods, and raised coupler height
• Third modifications: improved trucks and raised coupler height
• Fourth modifications: stubbed frame, improved trucks, trucks moved, automatic couplers and safety appliances

The cars were essentially "built" in CAD to match data from typical B&S/EBT practice and photographs. • dimensioned side, end, and top views of fourth modifications version

Each drawing is 12x18 inches, printed on 18x24 inch paper and shipped rolled in a mailing tube.
